Overview
The French Pacific atoll test site in French Polynesia where 41 atmospheric and over 130 underground tests were conducted from 1966 until 1996, when France ended testing and signed the test ban treaty. The Rainbow Warrior, a Greenpeace vessel bombed in Auckland in 1985, had been heading to protest here.
