Overview
APS-1 at Obninsk was the worlds first nuclear power plant to deliver electricity to a grid, a 5 MWe graphite moderated channel reactor in Kaluga oblast. It ran from June 1954 to April 2002 and is now a museum and training center. Soviet engineers proved here that civilian nuclear power was practical.
