Overview
The fast reactor complex on the Caithness coast of Scotland. The Dounreay Fast Reactor inside its famous steel sphere went critical in 1959 and in 1962 became the first fast reactor to feed a national grid, followed by the Prototype Fast Reactor until 1994. Cleanup, including a particle contaminated seabed, continues for decades.
