Overview
A 280 MW prototype fast breeder reactor in Tsuruga, Fukui prefecture. A sodium leak and fire in December 1995, followed by an attempted cover up, kept it idle for nearly 15 years. A brief 2010 restart ended when a fuel handling machine fell into the vessel. Japan decided to decommission it in 2016 after spending over a trillion yen.
