Overview
An island in the Aleutian chain of Alaska used for three underground nuclear tests. Cannikin in 1971, at about 5 megatons, was the largest underground test the United States ever conducted. Protests against it helped give birth to Greenpeace. The island is now part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge.
