Overview
The National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore focuses 192 laser beams inside a stadium sized building. In December 2022 it achieved ignition, delivering 3.15 megajoules of fusion energy from 2.05 megajoules of laser input, the first controlled fusion gain, since repeated at higher yields.
