Overview

The Stationary Low Power Reactor Number One, a US Army prototype at the National Reactor Testing Station in Idaho. On 3 January 1961 a control rod was withdrawn too far during maintenance, causing a steam explosion that killed all three operators. It is the only reactor accident in the United States to cause immediate deaths. The wreckage was buried nearby.
