Overview
The second artificial nuclear reactor after Chicago Pile-1 and the first designed for continuous operation, built at Oak Ridge in 1943. It served as the pilot for plutonium production at Hanford and afterwards produced radioisotopes for medicine and research. Shut down in 1963, it is a National Historic Landmark.
